Pat Finegan is the founder and managing director of Finegan & Company LLC. Mr. Finegan has more than 25 years of experience as a management consultant, working with CFOs, treasurers and business owners on matters of performance measurement, planning, risk identification, and risk management.
Although he consults in all areas of value-based management and corporate finance, Mr. Finegan specializes in helping companies identify, measure and exploit sources of operating uncertainty. He is the author of Towers Perrin Risk Diagnostics™, a popular ERM-modeling tool for corporate risk managers. Mr. Finegan also wrote the first published article on EVA, a now-leading performance metric.
Mr. Finegan was previously a Principal and Senior ERM Consultant at Tillinghast-Towers Perrin. He was also a Managing Director at Swiss Re Financial Services Corporation, and a Partner at Stern Stewart & Co. While at Stern Stewart, Mr. Finegan managed the firm's private company and middle market practice, and coordinated much of the firm's research on shareholder value and EVA — including its annual corporate ranking. Mr. Finegan helped design and implement many of the earliest incentive compensation plans based on EVA, and remains dedicated to that field.
Mr. Finegan served as an expert witness and economist on several prominent insurance industry cases, including the rehabilitation of Executive Life in 1991, and is a frequent speaker on risk management and applied corporate finance. He has published articles in The Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, Corporate Cash Flow, Corporate Finance Review, Pensions & Investments, and Small Business Controller, and been quoted by The Wall Street Journal, Investor's Business Daily, Pensions & Investments, CFO Magazine, Business Finance Magazine, Treasury & Risk, Global Finance, Corporate Board Member, National Underwriter, and numerous trade journals.
Mr. Finegan holds a JD from the University of Chicago Law School, an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a BA in economics and mathematics from Northwestern University. He is a member of the New York State Bar.
